posted Jan 6, 2010, 1:56 PM by Wesley Calidonna

CPWCS is Warming Up
Sad snowflakes, happy dancers.  CPWCS is hosting its first major dance in Chumash Auditorium Friday, January 8th.  We're teaching two lessons and hosting late night dancing.  We'll have music from DJ M-Con and BIG WES.

Also, come find out more about our upcoming weekly dances and lessons!

Newcomer Lesson
We love to see new faces! This lesson will be for those who are just starting out with West Coast Swing and will not assume that you have any prior experience. It will focus on rhythm, basic footwork patterns, and techniques for leading and following some of the basic element patterns for the dance.  This is a great dance to bring friends that have never tried WCS.

Novice Lesson
This lesson is designed for those who already have a good understanding of the basic elements of the dance and are getting comfortable with leading and following. It will focus on the techniques for leading and following more complex patterns and may bring in some individual styling.

Tri-Masquerade Tickets
We now have Tri-Masquerade tickets in hand available for purchase!  They will be available at all of our events until January 30th.  Tickets are $10 ($7 for CPWCS members).

Last Friday

You rock!  Last Friday (11/6) was so much fun.  We had 16 people in our beginning lesson and 29 people in our intermediate lesson.  We had over 50 people come out to dance, all squeezed into one room.  Props to all you beginners that came out for your first lesson ever.  We hope you'll come on Tuesdays at the Grad and our future events.  Thanks to you all.

After seeing this size turnout we really want to setup another dance soon.  Ultimately we'd like to offer a weekly dance on Fridays alongside CP Salsa with a couple lessons.

If you have any idea for future events or improving them let us know!

Thank you for your support.

Alright, not quite that creepy.  But as a club we're trying to gather any pictures of us out dancing.  We want to start a club photo album!  These pictures will be collected for everyone to see and share as well as adding a bit more color to the site.  So please, email me any pictures of dancing or the crazy-random-stuff that happens we we get together to dance.

We are proud to present the Cal Poly West Coast Swing Club!

Tonight Tuesday 9/15/09 is our official launch.  Come dance with us at The Grad tonight.  We'll have a free beginning lesson at 8pm for those that have never tried West Coast Swing (WCS).  Following at 9pm, we'll have open dancing until midnight.  This week is also Cal Poly WOW.  We hope to have some WOWies joining us tonight, so come support them.  Also tonight you'll have a chance to find out more about the club, membership, and activities.

Clearly if you're reading this, you've noticed we've also got a website, launched today as well.  We plan to keep it up-to-date with all local lessons, local dances, and regional dance events (conventions).  More on the website to come...

If you're new to West Coast check out some of the video highlights on the front page or read What is West Coast Swing?  YouTube has a lot more videos of WCS, check it out.

To keep up on everything see our join our mailing list and Stalker Page.

Hope to see you tonight!
